Imam Ali (AS) Museum hosts Kioumars Pourahmad’s birthday

The Imam Ali (AS) Religious Arts Museum in Tehran has hosted a birthday ceremony for Iranian filmmaker Kioumars Pourahmad.

The ceremony was held on Saturday for the 68th birth anniversary of the veteran Iranian director.

The head of Tehran Municipality’s culture and art organization, Mahmoud Salahi, and a number of artists, including Fardin Khalatbari, Ehteram Boroumand, Hossein Mahjoubi, and Kourosh Soleimani, attended the ceremony.

Scriptwriter and director Masoud Foroutan, scriptwriter and director Sirous Alvand, writer Houshang Moradi-Kermani, cinema official Nasser Onsori and Salahi went on stage and admired Pourahmad works.

Born on December 16, 1949, in Najafabad, Pourahmad studied Cinema Directing and began his television career as an assistant director in Nader Ebrahimi’s series ‘Fire without Smoke’ in 1974. He entered film industry by writing screenplay for a movie.

His memorable movies include ‘Shame’, ‘Winter Solstice’, ‘Ice Flower’, and ‘The Night Bus’.

His most popular series ‘The Stories of Majid’ was originally produced for young audience, but quickly became a national hit among all age groups. It was through this series that his mother, Parvindokht Yazdanian launched her acting career as the loveable grandmother “Bibi”.

Pourahmad has also directed other popular television series, including ‘Clue’ and ‘Open Parenthesis’.

He won a Crystal Simorgh from the 14th edition of the Fajr Film Festival for directing ‘Strange Sisters’ in 2005.
